Residents: As a homeowner or resident, your individual actions can add up to big improvements in the watershed. Browse our fact sheets for ideas and information. Water Friendly Pet Waste Disposal Alternative Home and Landscape Design For a comprehensive overview, one of the best publications we've seen is Homeowners Guide to Stormwater Management, prepared for residents of the Philadelphia area, but available on the DHEC website. Business Owners: Businesses can have a large impact on water quality in the watershed. Implementing best practices can make that impact a positive one. Controlling storm water runoff (Carolina Clear Stormwater 101) Disposing of Fats, Oil and Grease correctly Consider Adopting a Highway or Adopting a Waterway in the watershed. If you and your employees are interested in citizen science, consider training to become certified Adopt a Stream water quality monitors. Home and Lake Owners Associations: In addition to information for individual residents, consider these options for your organization: Encourage your members to follow recommendations offered by DHEC's Buffers and Other Solutions. Scroll down to see Backyard Buffers in the resources section. While created for backyards in the Lowcountry, most recommendations apply to the midlands as well.
