Wine for Water Wine Tasting and Fundraiser

April 19th, 6:00 to 8:30
The Hall at Senate's End
Columbia, SC

Join the Gills Creek Watershed Association and Sustainable Midlands for a wine tasting and silent auction fundraiser that raises awareness for our Midlands waterways!

Guests will have the opportunity to taste over 20 wines from around the world, sample dishes from six signature local restaurants, and bid on exciting items at our silent auction.

Funds raised from Wine for Water support the Gills Creek, Smith Branch, and Rocky Branch Watersheds.

Purchase your tickets online here. GCWA members get discounted event tickets.

We are still seeking volunteers, event sponsors, and item donations for the silent auction. If you are interested in volunteering for the event or becoming a sponsor, please contact Erich Miarka.

Gills Creek Greenway Comments

Public Comment Deadline March 9
The public comment period for Gills Creek Greenway Section A will be open until March 9. Comments can be submitted by email to or you can download the comment form from and mail it in. County Council needs to know how important this project is to our community and how much we want this greenway.

Opponents Are Active and Vocal!

Opponents to the greenway are fired up and armed with rumors and alarmist ‘facts’. Although there are some legitimate neighborhood concerns that need to be addressed, many of the opponents are not even located near or adjacent to the proposed greenway. Please show your support, send in your comments to the Penny Team, and have a calm discussion with folks who have questions and concerns! For more information, visit

Citizens' Climate Lobby

There is a new, local Columbia chapter of the national organization, Citizens' Climate Lobby. CCL is a bipartisan group with a plan to put a price on fossil fuels to reflect their true cost to human health and the planet. You can sign up on their website at Their next meeting is April 1 at Seven Oaks Park from 2 to 4pm.

Decker Cleanup

Help us for this year's Great American Cleanup on Saturday, March 11 from 9am to noon. We'll be cleaning up along Decker Blvd as part of our Palmetto Pride litter reduction project. Meet at the parking lot off Decker Blvd at the end of O'Neil Ct, across the street from Chick Fil A. Come for an hour, or come for the whole time! Wear appropriate clothing and footwear. We'll supply the bags, pickers, and gloves. Contact Alicia if you have any questions.
The Gills Creek Watershed Association works to restore and protect Gills Creek and its tributaries through key public and private partnerships.
